The seriously healthy might want to look away. These things are fried deliciousness!
I like to dip them into a soy sauce and fresh lemon juice concoction. I usually make rice or couscous and either a salad or sauteed spinach, and call it a meal.
I made these yesterday and the omnivores loved them! That's always saying something.
Fried Tofu Squares
1 package extra firm tofu, drained and pressed into towels to remove moisture, and cut into 2 inch squares. (Size is a preference. You could also cut the tofu into thinner long slices for sandwiches.)
4 T. oil (for frying.)
1/2 c. flour
3 T. nutritional yeast
1 t. salt
1/2 t. pepper
1 t. dried sage
1/2 t. cayenne pepper
1/2 t. garlic powder
Sift the dry ingredients onto a plate. This is for breading your tofu.
Put oil in frying pan over med-high heat.
Roll tofu squares into the breading, getting a good coating.
Fry, turning over when well done to make sure all sides are fried. Add more oil as needed.
Dipping Sauce
1/4 c. soy sauce
1 T. fresh lemon juice
Happy fried vegan food!
